HOSPITALITY PRAISE FOR LAST SUNDAY’S CHARGE CONFERENCE

The other nine churches involved in our regional cluster were effusive in their praise for the way we welcomed them and hosted last Sunday’s Charge Conference. Many good ministry ideas were shared from the stage; we modeled hospitality in all that we did. People left hopeful and encouraged as to what more could be done in their individual congregations to build the kingdom of God.

THINKING STEWARDSHIP DURING THIS SEASON

God is so good in taking care of our every need! This fall season we again get our chance to say, “Thank you, O God, for life and for your never-failing love. May our gratitude be shown in our love for you and for your church, the very body of Christ, in our stewardship planning for this new year ahead.” Blue Estimate of Giving cards can be found on the information table by the office. Return the card through the mail or in the weekly offering. Save the small tear off as a “love reminder.”

PUBLIC SAFETY SUNDAY ~ TODAY

Today we say thanks by honoring all the men and women who serve in a police, fire, or emergency role. Special recognition goes out to our own Lewisburg units (see enclosure). Our Message this morning during our How Do You Choose? series is "Looking at Those Who Encourage" (1 Thessalonians 5:1-11).

TWIN BABIES BEING BAPTIZED THIS MORNING

Scott and Kim Smith present their 12-week-old twin children Lucas and Aubrey (born on August 25) for holy baptism this morning. This new “family of four” lives in Apple Valley. Share the warm love of Christ with them today and get a close-up look at their adorable twin son and daughter.

WELCOME BACK KIMBERLY CORNETT & STEPHANY WELDON

If you missed their music before, you’re going to be glad you’re here today! And if you love them today, you won’t want to miss them with their full band, Glorious Ruins, at 6:30 p.m. on November 30 for an hour-long Children’s Christmas Concert here immediately following Family Advent Night. Kimberly is the great-granddaughter of Beryl Surber.

UMW MEETING TOMORROW NIGHT AT 6:30

The United Methodist Women invite the ladies of the church to come to the café Monday night, with the promise that a lot of exciting events will be happening in the next few months. So come and join in preparing the celebration of Jesus’ birthday. Also, meet the new officers for 2009:  Co-Presidents Janet Richards & Marina Johnson • Vice President Linda Schlotterbeck • Secretary Pam Derringer • Treasurer Linda Creech

[Refreshments: Linda Schlotterbeck & Janet Richards]

WEE CHOIR STARTING SOON

All 3 to 5 year-olds are invited to sing in the Wee Choir, directed by Sarah Shepherd. Parents, please contact Sarah for more info or to let her know that your child is interested in singing.

BECOME A PART OF OUR 12/21 CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS PROGRAM

Diane Pratt is putting out a call to all children in grades K-6 to join her in practicing on Wednesday nights (5:30-6:30 p.m.) for a special Children’s Christmas Program at our December 21 Sunday worship service. There could possibly be a couple of extra practices along the way. Be a part of bringing the gift of the baby Jesus into the world this year!

CHRISTMAS TOYS FOR CHILDREN

Watch for the Angel Tree to appear in the entrance to the Worship Area on November 23. Ornaments on the tree will have information about gifts you can purchase to help give needy children a Merry Christmas.

FAMILY ADVENT NIGHT JUST TWO SUNDAYS AWAY

The very best children’s craft and holiday program is our annual “Family Advent Night.” It is in two weeks (11/30) and will help kick-off the Season of Preparation for the coming of the Christ child. Sunday, November 30 from 4:00-6:30 p.m. is the time. Bring a snack to share and stay for a special Children’s Christmas Concert at 6:30 from a group known as Glorious Ruins. Kimberly Cornett and Stephany Weldon (from that group) sing for us today.

COOKIE WALK & “NEARLY NEW” CHRISTMAS GIFT SHOP
8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. – Saturday, December 13

It’s time to get ready for our annual Cooke Walk, hosted by the UMW. Please bring in your favorite homemade cookies (with the cookie name & ingredients noted—e.g. nuts, peanut butter, etc.). Cookie donations may be brought to the church on Friday, December 12. Homemade cabbage and pumpkin rolls will also be available. For Cookie Walk questions, see Sandy, Rosemary, or Bonnie. For Cabbage/Pumpkin Roll questions, see Joanne. The youth will also have their “Nearly New” Christmas Gift Shop. They are asking for donations of new or gently used Christmas themed items to sell. Please see Lyna Timmons for more information.

DON'T FORGET TO "GO KROGERING" FOR THE CHURCH

Remember that one of the easiest forms of supporting the church is to shop at Kroger using one of our gift cards. See Jim Yount if you need a gift card or clarification on how to use them. We get 4 cents on the dollar. Get a card for family and friends, even if they’re out-of-state.
